Azan to Lead U-17 Cricket Team Against Sri Lanka

LAHORE: Leg-spinner Azan Ahmed has been officially appointed to captain the Pakistan U-17 cricket team for the upcoming bilateral home series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to commence next month in Multan.
The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed the squad selection following an exhaustive developmental pathway that evaluated top domestic talents from across the country.
The comprehensive series comprises one three-day match and five one-day encounters, all set to be hosted at the historic Multan Cricket Stadium from October 9 to October 24, with the visiting Sri Lankan squad slated to arrive on October 5.
Azan earned the leadership role after orchestrating Rawalpindi’s title triumph in the National U-17 Cup earlier this year, where the talented spinner claimed an impressive 36 wickets across eight matches and guided his side to a resounding victory over Abbottabad in the final.
This youth series underscores the Pakistan Cricket Board’s unwavering commitment to grassroots development and structured talent identification.
Following the conclusion of the domestic cup, 48 standout performers were initially shortlisted for an intensive skills development camp in Faisalabad starting July 30, which was subsequently narrowed down to 30 players before finalizing the ultimate 16-member squad and four reserves.
As preparations intensify ahead of the October 5 arrival, the coaching staff aims to translate domestic brilliance into international success.
