AJK Assembly Speaker for Consensus on Refugee Seats

MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Tariq Farooq has emphasized the need for a broad-based consensus regarding the future of refugee seats in the assembly.

Speaking to journalists at the Speaker House on Thursday, he urged political leaders to engage in dialogue and implement reforms to address the ongoing crisis.

Farooq highlighted that this moment presents an opportunity for political leaders to align with national objectives and guide the assembly towards a constructive future.

He stated, “Learning from mistakes is wisdom. We need to explore new avenues for the future,” reiterating his support for reforms across all institutions.

The call for consensus comes at a critical time when the status and representation of refugees in the AJK assembly have become contentious issues.

The resolution of these matters is essential not only for political stability but also for fostering a sense of inclusion among the refugee community, which has historically faced challenges in representation.

Looking ahead, Farooq’s remarks may pave the way for future discussions among political factions.

Stakeholders are expected to convene in the coming weeks to deliberate on potential reforms and strategies that could lead to a more equitable representation of refugees in the assembly.
