Islamabad: Pakistani actress Meera was deported after Canadian authorities refused her entry at the Niagara Falls border, according to media reports.

The actress was reportedly traveling from the United States to Canada to attend a show when immigration officials detained her for several hours before ordering her deportation.

Sources said border officials questioned Meera, whose real name is Irtiza Arbab, and examined her travel documents and the purpose of her visit. During the questioning, she was informed that she was not permitted to enter Canada.

Speaking to a private television channel, Meera attributed her deportation to unpaid taxes related to a previous performance in Canada.

She said that performers share responsibility for ensuring that applicable taxes are paid, regardless of whether the event organizer is responsible for making the payment. The actress added that she would provide further details about the matter soon.

Media reports suggest that Meera performed at a stage show in Calgary several months ago without the necessary permits. Following that incident, reports emerged that Canadian authorities had imposed a ban on her entry into the country.

Her scheduled show in Canada was cancelled after she was denied entry. She subsequently travelled to New York following her deportation.

Canadian authorities have not yet issued further details explaining the decision to deny her entry.
