300 Kids Die Daily Due to Lack of Medical Care:Mustafa

Karachi: Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has warned that around 300 children die every day in Pakistan due to inadequate medical facilities, stressing the need for urgent reforms and greater attention to the health sector.

Addressing a ceremony at a private hospital in Karachi, the federal minister said Pakistan was moving in the right direction but faced significant challenges in healthcare and population management.

Mustafa Kamal stressed the need to bring the nursing curriculum in line with modern healthcare requirements. He said Pakistan’s population growth rate currently stands at 2.55%, creating additional pressure on public services, particularly health and education.

The minister said millions of children remain deprived of education because of the country’s rapidly growing population, making disease prevention and public awareness key priorities for the government.

He said the government was spending millions of dollars on vaccination programmes, with expenditure expected to reach $1.2 billion by 2030.

According to Mustafa Kamal, a lack of public awareness remains one of the major obstacles to effective vaccination campaigns. He said vaccination teams often face resistance from communities, with some people even refusing to open their doors when teams visit their homes.

The federal minister also announced that the government is expected to sign agreements for local vaccine production within the next few weeks.

He said efforts were underway to begin domestic vaccine manufacturing before 2030, which would help strengthen Pakistan’s healthcare system and reduce dependence on imported vaccines.
