10 terrorists killed in KP operations, Says ISPR

Rawalpindi: Security forces have killed 10 alleged militants in separate operations in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The military’s media wing said security forces foiled an attempted attack on their checkposts in the Azam Warsak area of South Waziristan on Thursday.

During the ensuing exchange of fire, eight militants were killed by security forces, while weapons and ammunition were recovered from their possession, the ISPR said.

In a separate operation conducted in Dir district on the same day, two more militants were killed.

According to the ISPR, the militants were involved in multiple terrorist activities in the region. Following the encounters, security forces launched sanitisation operations in the affected areas to locate and eliminate any remaining militants.

The military said its counterterrorism operations would continue under the Azm-e-Istehkam framework to combat militant groups and prevent foreign-sponsored terrorism.

Pakistan has faced increased militant violence in recent years, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Islamabad has repeatedly alleged that militant groups operating from Afghan territory are involved in attacks inside Pakistan and has called on the Afghan authorities to take action against them.

A report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan remained the country’s two most violence-affected provinces during the second quarter of 2026.

According to the report, the two provinces accounted for nearly 96% of all violence-related fatalities recorded across Pakistan during the period.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported 475 deaths, accounting for more than 61% of the nationwide total, while Balochistan recorded 265 deaths, or 34%.

KP also registered 151 violent incidents during the quarter, representing 57% of the national total, followed by Balochistan with 94 incidents.
