Sukkur: With the onset of the cold weather, there has been a notable surge in the sale and purchase of winter cloths, both new and second-hand, in the districts of Sukkur, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Ghotki, Noushehroferoze, and other areas in northern Sindh.
In markets, a diverse crowd, encompassing both the affluent and less privileged, engages in bargaining with retailers. Alongside a plethora of winter garments, vendors showcase an array of quilts, bed covers, blankets, and rugs.
Business is thriving for these vendors and dealers, with winter clothing flying off the shelves. Saien Dad Qureshi, a cloth dealer at Shahi Bazar, expressed satisfaction, stating, “Our business is going very well these days as the demand for winter clothes has risen.”
Numerous dealers and stallholders share this sentiment, anticipating a further uptick in sales as winter intensifies. A dealer at Station Road claimed, “Our sale has doubled, and we are expecting that in the days ahead it will go up further.”
Various clothing and accessories, including gloves, woolen hats, mufflers, pullovers, sweatshirts, and jackets, are prominently displayed, attracting shoppers. However, customers, becoming increasingly discerning, prioritize quality and seek reasonable prices.
Waseem Ahmed, a shop owner in Sukkur, noted, “They not only select clothes that are best in quality but also try to get these at nominal rates.” Some even attempt to negotiate prices at fixed-price shops.
In Khairpur, Lunda bazaars cater to those seeking affordable clothing options. A man at Station Road Khairpur mentioned, “The price of new winter clothing is out of our reach. Therefore, we rush to these second-hand clothing stalls, where we get quality clothes at affordable rates.” Nevertheless, some customers expressed concern about rising prices for second-hand clothes.
Javed Ahmed, a second-hand clothing dealer, explained that they acquire these clothes at high prices from wholesale dealers in Quetta and Karachi, influencing their selling prices accordingly.
