Sindh Restores Two-Day Weekend for Schools

Karachi: The Sindh government has reversed its earlier decision on the school week, announcing that all government and private schools across the province will now remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
The decision, approved by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, restores the two-day weekend for educational institutions. To make up for the reduced number of teaching days, schools will extend class timings by one hour from Monday to Friday.
According to the provincial government, the revised schedule is part of its austerity measures and is aimed at ensuring the efficient use of available resources while maintaining the academic calendar.

The announcement marks a shift from the policy introduced just days earlier. On August 1, 2026, Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah had announced that government schools across the province would operate six days a week to continue academic activities.
