Lahore: Rilee Rossouw produced a moment of sheer brilliance in PSL 2026, pulling off a sensational relay catch in tandem with Hasan Nawaz to dismiss Steve Smith during the clash between Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans.
The breathtaking effort came at a pivotal moment in the chase, with Smith anchoring the innings through a composed half-century and threatening to steer his side to victory.
The decisive moment unfolded in the 14th over when Smith attempted a slog sweep toward deep midwicket. Positioned near the boundary, Rossouw sprinted across and initially completed the catch, only to realise his momentum would carry him over the rope.
Demonstrating remarkable awareness, the South African released the ball mid-air back into play before crossing the boundary line.
Hasan Nawaz, well-positioned inside the field, kept his composure to complete the catch cleanly, sealing one of the most remarkable dismissals of the tournament. The on-field umpires referred the decision upstairs, but replays confirmed the legality of the relay effort, ending Smith’s innings at 53.
Rossouw’s athleticism and presence of mind turned what seemed a certain six into a crucial breakthrough, briefly swinging momentum back toward Quetta.
Earlier, Quetta Gladiators had posted 166 for seven, with key contributions from Saud Shakeel and Bevon Jacobs. Despite the moment of fielding brilliance, Multan Sultans maintained control of the chase, with skipper Shan Masood guiding the side to a comfortable six-wicket victory.
While the result went against Quetta, Rossouw’s extraordinary effort stood out as one of the defining highlights of PSL 2026, underlining the rising standards of fielding in modern T20 cricket.
