Rawalpindi Imposes Rain Emergency As Heavy Rain Hit Twin Cities

RAWALPINDI: The district administration has officially imposed a rain emergency across Rawalpindi and placed all relevant municipal and emergency response departments on high alert following heavy downpours that lashed the twin cities.
Acting on the directives of Rawalpindi Commissioner Usman Ghani and Deputy Commissioner Capt (retd) Nadeem Nasir, civic bodies including the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Rescue 1122, and the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company have mobilized field teams.
Heavy machinery and personnel have been deployed to low-lying areas and critical intersections prone to urban flooding.
The sudden and intense spell of rain has raised water levels in local Nullahs, particularly Nullah Lai, causing concern among residents living along its banks. Authorities are closely monitoring water discharge levels around the clock to prevent any potential disaster, while traffic police have been directed to manage gridlocks caused by water accumulation on major thoroughfares.
The emergency measures will remain in force until weather conditions stabilize entirely. Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during peak downpours and to contact emergency helplines immediately in case of any untoward situation or water inundation in their neighborhoods.
