Islamabad: In the ongoing fifth match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Quetta Gladiators won the toss and opted to bat first against Hyderabad Kingsmen at a venue in Lahore.

Both sides are playing their second match of the tournament, having lost their opening fixtures and looking to secure their first win of the season.

Quetta Gladiators captain Saud Shakeel made the decision to set a target, aiming to put pressure on the opposition early in the contest.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad Kingsmen all-rounder Saim Ayub addressed concerns over his recent form, describing it not as a slump but as a learning phase in his career.

Speaking to Geo News in Lahore, he said he remains focused on improving his game rather than being fixated on immediate results.

“I don’t see it as a bad patch; it’s a challenge for me,” Ayub said, adding that he is working to refine his skills and follow a disciplined process.

He also expressed satisfaction with the team environment in Hyderabad Kingsmen, noting that the dressing room atmosphere has exceeded expectations. Ayub highlighted the presence of familiar teammates, including domestic players and those with international experience, contributing to a positive environment.

Describing captain Marnus Labuschagne as upbeat and approachable, Ayub said the team culture is friendly and supportive. He added that the squad is aligned with an aggressive style of play under the guidance of the management, which emphasizes attacking cricket across batting, bowling, and fielding departments.

Ayub further stated that expectations are naturally high given the composition of the team, but emphasized that the focus remains on learning and executing plans rather than dwelling on outcomes. “I follow the process and try to keep improving,” he said.

The match continues as both teams aim to bounce back from early setbacks in the tournament.
