PTA to Block WhatsApp Accounts Linked to Inactive SIMs

Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to block WhatsApp accounts linked to inactive, cancelled or unused SIM cards as part of measures to prevent their misuse for fraudulent and illegal activities.
According to the PTA, some WhatsApp accounts associated with inactive mobile numbers are being used for fraud and other unlawful activities.
The authority advised users to ensure that their WhatsApp accounts are linked to active mobile numbers to retain control of their accounts.
The blocking process may begin at any time, the PTA said, urging users who have changed their mobile numbers to use WhatsApp’s built-in number-change feature immediately.
The authority also advised users to update their registered mobile numbers promptly to avoid losing access to their WhatsApp accounts.
