BAHAWALPUR: The Returning Officer for the NA-168 Bahawalpur constituency has officially released the Form 47 results, declaring PML-N candidate Malik Munir Iqbal Channar as the triumphant winner of the closely watched by-election.
According to the consolidated statement of results, Channar secured a commanding lead by bagging 87,789 votes to claim the National Assembly seat.
The electoral contest witnessed a robust challenge from independent candidate Waleed Dad Cheema, who put up a notable fight, securing 39,000-plus votes, though falling significantly short of the winning margin.
The polling process generally remained peaceful under strict security arrangements, with local election officials overseeing the transparent compilation of votes from all polling stations within the constituency.
This political victory further strengthens the ruling PML-N’s numerical presence in Parliament, offering a morale boost to the party’s local cadre in the southern belt of Punjab.
Political analysts view the outcome as a reflection of sustained electoral loyalty in the region, while also highlighting the growing participation of independent contenders in mainstream legislative races across Pakistan.
Following the issuance of Form 47, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is expected to compile final consolidated results and issue the official notification of the returned candidate.
Subsequently, the newly elected lawmaker will take the oath of office in the National Assembly, formally initiating his legislative tenure representing the constituents of Bahawalpur.
