PM Shehbaz Approves Expansion of Major Airports to Boost Karachi’s Cargo Hub

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the expansion of Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport and Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, aiming to transform Karachi into a significant air cargo hub. This decision was made during a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister on Thursday, where key federal ministers and officials were present.

The meeting included a briefing on a recent survey conducted by an international firm, which assessed the quality of travel facilities at major airports in Pakistan. PM Sharif emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in the expansion projects, insisting that they align with international requirements and undergo third-party validation to ensure quality improvements.

This initiative is expected to enhance Pakistan’s aviation infrastructure, potentially boosting trade and economic activity in the region. By establishing Karachi as a central air cargo hub, the government aims to facilitate smoother logistics and attract international business, which could lead to job creation and increased revenue.

Next steps involve detailed planning and execution of the expansion projects, with the government set to monitor progress closely. Further meetings are anticipated to discuss timelines and the involvement of international partners in the development process.
