Peshawar ATC Discards Radio Pakistan Attack IO Report

PESHAWAR: An anti-terrorism court in Peshawar on Friday declared inconclusive and formally discarded a police investigation report regarding the violent ransacking and torching of the Radio Pakistan building that occurred in May 2023.
Presiding Judge Wali Mohammad Khan dismissed the submission, ruling that the report lacked the mandatory professional opinion and comprehensive analytical evaluation of the investigating officer.
The court directed the investigating officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police Khushal Khan to submit a thoroughly revised and conclusive report.
This directive must incorporate the definitive technical findings of the Punjab Forensic Science Agency and the National Database and Registration Authority, which analyzed specific video clips and suspect profile pictures linked to the widespread violence.
The integrity of the investigation has remained a central point of contention throughout the ongoing judicial proceedings, particularly following the submission of crucial forensic evaluations earlier this year. These technical reports reportedly identify high-profile figures, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, among the suspects captured in the digital video footage.
Judge Khan has formally scheduled the next hearing for September 24, ordering law enforcement authorities to ensure the submission of the finalized and evidence-backed report to advance the long-delayed anti-terrorism trial.
