Pak Sees 83% Surge in Violence-Linked Deaths in 2026
ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan has recorded a staggering 83 percent increase in violence-linked fatalities during the third quarter of 2026, reversing a declining trend observed in the earlier months as terrorism and counter-terrorism deaths surged across the nation.
The Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) reports that Balochistan has become the epicenter of this violence, accounting for nearly 59 percent of total fatalities, with deaths in the province more than tripling. This alarming rise has made Balochistan the worst-hit region, surpassing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in both violence-related deaths and recorded incidents.
In total, the CRSS documented at least 1,415 fatalities and 558 injuries among civilians, security personnel, and outlaws across 385 incidents involving terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism operations. The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has emerged as the deadliest group, inflicting 117 deaths, raising concerns about the security landscape in the country.
As violence escalates, the implications for citizens are dire, with increased fear and instability affecting daily life and economic activities. The government faces mounting pressure to enhance security measures and address the root causes of this violence. Upcoming discussions among security agencies and policymakers are expected to focus on strategies to combat this surge in violence and restore peace in the affected regions.
