Muqam Accuses KP Govt of Failing to Curb Terrorism

PESHAWAR: Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions, Ameer Muqam, has launched a scathing critique against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, alleging that the provincial administration has failed to maintain peace and curb the rising tide of militancy.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader claimed that terrorists are operating with impunity across various parts of the province, leaving ordinary citizens vulnerable to relentless violence and extortion.
Muqam asserted that while the federal government is fully committed to eradicating extremism through comprehensive intelligence-based operations, the provincial ruling party has been preoccupied with political agitation rather than addressing pressing security challenges.
He emphasized that the resurgence of militant activities in districts bordering the former tribal areas demands a unified political response, but accused the provincial leadership of neglecting its primary constitutional duty to protect civilian lives.
The sharp political exchange underscores the deepening friction between Islamabad and the Peshawar administration over national security frameworks and counter-terrorism strategies.
Critics note that the deteriorating security paradigm in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa not only threatens regional stability but also undermines investor confidence, severely impacting economic activity and local livelihoods in the aftermath of prolonged infrastructural damage caused by previous waves of insurgency.
Federal authorities are expected to hold high-level consultations with security chiefs in the coming days to review the deployment of law enforcement agencies and reassess the counter-terrorism grid in sensitive districts.
Meanwhile, provincial ministers have rejected the federal criticism, maintaining that their administration is extending full logistical cooperation to law enforcement bodies to restore enduring peace in the region.
