Islamabad: A health expert emphasized the importance of public awareness for early detection and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle to control cardiac diseases.
Factors such as consumption of fats, samosas, poor sleep patterns, and unhealthy food habits are largely responsible for the increasing prevalence of heart diseases across generations.
Major General (retd) Azhar Mehmood Kiyani, a senior cardiologist, speaking to a PTV news channel, advised the public that heart diseases can be mitigated through simple lifestyle modifications.
He stressed the significance of early screening in halting the progression of the disease, asserting that with early detection, heart diseases can be effectively managed.
Dr Kiyani highlighted the urgent need to take cardiac diseases seriously and focus on prevention. He identified diabetes, hypertension, smoking, and sedentary lifestyles as major contributors to heart attacks.
Additionally, he emphasized the importance of avoiding the consumption of fats, chewing tobacco, and cigarettes (Paan and Gutkha) to reduce the risk of heart disease, particularly among younger individuals in Pakistan.
Dr Kiyani pointed out that high blood pressure (hypertension) is not only a concern for the elderly but also for the youth population, which is increasingly susceptible to this silent threat.
He recommended that people adopt a healthy lifestyle and incorporate exercise into their routines to safeguard against cardiac diseases.
Furthermore, he suggested that youngsters engage in practices such as meditation, yoga, and mindfulness, which can serve as powerful tools in managing stress and promoting overall well-being.
Dr Kiyani stressed the importance of breakfast for everyone as a mandatory component of a healthy lifestyle.
