KP Govt Plans Deductions Under Sehat Card Scheme

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced plans to introduce conditional deductions from payments made to public sector hospitals under its flagship free health insurance initiative, the Sehat Card Plus programme. Provincial Health Minister Khaliqur Rehman confirmed that a comprehensive briefing detailing the proposed financial adjustments and administrative enhancements has already been presented to the Chief Minister.
According to provincial authorities, the proposed framework aims to reinforce operational oversight and ensure that allocated healthcare funds are transparently utilized for genuinely deserving patients.
The government has significantly enhanced the budgetary allocation for the health initiative, raising it from Rs35 billion in 2025 to Rs41 billion to widen coverage and elevate service delivery standards across the province.
The financial restructuring carries broader implications for public health infrastructure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, striking a balance between financial sustainability and universal healthcare access.
Analysts note that while the deductions might alter institutional cash flows for public hospitals, the enhanced overall budget signals a continued political commitment to the welfare-oriented scheme originally launched in 2015.
Following finalization, the strategic plan and necessary legislative amendments to provide legal cover will be submitted to the provincial cabinet for formal approval.
Officials maintain that the upcoming reforms will fortify accountability mechanisms, minimize administrative leakages, and expand localized health services without compromising patient care.
