Governor Kundi Promises Support, Pay Raise for Police
News Desk
PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi announced on Monday that the provincial government will not compromise on police support, pledging enhanced resources and a pay raise for law enforcement officials. This declaration comes in the wake of the Centre’s recent imposition of governor’s rule in the province.
During a press conference, Kundi emphasized the importance of security, stating that under the new governance structure, addressing terrorism will be a top priority. He noted a significant ‘lack of synergy’ in current counterterrorism efforts and asserted, ‘We can sacrifice our development, but never security.’
The governor’s remarks signal a shift in focus towards strengthening law enforcement capabilities amid rising security concerns in the region. This commitment to police support is expected to bolster public confidence and enhance the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in combating terrorism.
Looking ahead, Kundi and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi co-chaired a meeting of the provincial apex committee to strategize on security measures. Further discussions are anticipated as the new administration seeks to implement comprehensive reforms in the police force and improve coordination in counterterrorism operations.
