JI Announces Protests Across Karachi Over Inflation

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Emir, Monem Zafar, has announced that the party will establish more than 25 protest camps across the metropolis starting tomorrow to mobilize citizens against soaring inflation and exorbitant electricity tariffs.
Addressing a press conference, the JI leader stated that the continuous spike in utility bills and essential food commodities has made it nearly impossible for the salaried and working classes to make ends meet.
He criticized the federal administration and power distribution companies for burdening the masses with oppressive taxes and flawed billing mechanisms.
The announcement signals a renewed wave of political agitation in Pakistan’s financial hub, where civic grievances regarding municipal neglect, high utility costs, and economic hardship have steadily mounted. Observers note that these demonstrations could significantly amplify public pressure on policymakers to revisit their ongoing economic stabilization measures and tariff structures.
Following the setup of these protest camps, JI leadership plans to evaluate the public response before announcing the next phase of its campaign, which may include larger sit-ins or targeted rallies outside key governmental and utility offices across the city.
