Islamabad: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) on Sunday issued a detailed traffic management plan for the 24th Muharram-ul-Haram procession to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public safety.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain (R) Zeeshan Haider, the procession will begin from Haidri Shah’s residence, pass through Madni Road and the kacha track of the Express Highway, and conclude at the Sain Boota Darbar Imambargah.
To facilitate the procession, Express Highway and Khanna Service Road will remain closed for all types of traffic. The public is advised to use alternate routes including Murree Road, Park Road, and Lehtrar Road to avoid delays.

Additionally, the service road from Faizabad to Rawalpindi via Express Highway will be inaccessible. Commuters are directed to use Kuri Road, Airport Road, and Khanna-Lehtrar Road as alternative routes.
CTO Haider urged citizens to cooperate with traffic personnel, avoid unnecessary movement near the procession route, and strictly refrain from illegal parking. He emphasized the importance of parking vehicles only in designated areas to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.
He also highlighted that public cooperation is crucial for maintaining order and ensuring safety during the religious gathering.
Meanwhile, with preparatory work for the Katchery Chowk flyover and underpass project in full swing, the City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi have begun finalising arrangements to implement a comprehensive traffic diversion plan to ensure smooth vehicular movement once the intersection is closed for construction in the first week of November.
On the special directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab Highway Department has initiated preliminary works, including the construction of retaining walls near Fatima Jinnah Women University and Jinnah Park.
These steps aim to facilitate the development of service roads and the relocation of utility services before the commencement of the main construction phase.
A CTP spokesperson said that Katchery Chowk is among the busiest intersections in Rawalpindi, with an estimated 200,000 vehicles passing through daily. To minimise public inconvenience, the department has designed an elaborate diversion plan offering alternative routes for motorists.
