Is POCO Coming for the Flagships?

Islamabad: POCO appears to be preparing a major push into the premium smartphone market with two new devices that could focus on speed, battery life and photography.
The rumored POCO F9 Pro and POCO F9 Ultra are expected to offer high-refresh-rate OLED displays, powerful processors, 200-megapixel cameras and unusually large batteries. While POCO has not officially confirmed the phones, leaked details suggest the company is preparing devices aimed at users who want high-end specifications without necessarily moving to the most expensive flagship phones.
According to information published by WinFuture and reported by specialist technology outlets, the two smartphones could be international versions of the Redmi K100 Pro and Redmi K100 Pro Max, which were previously introduced in China.
Rather than simply competing on processing power, POCO appears to be focusing on several features that could make the phones particularly attractive to gamers, heavy smartphone users and people who consume a lot of video content.
Displays built for speed
The display could be one of the biggest selling points of the new phones.
The POCO F9 Pro is expected to feature a 6.59-inch OLED screen, while the F9 Ultra could have a much larger display measuring around 6.85 to 6.9 inches.
Both models are rumored to support a refresh rate of up to 185Hz. A higher refresh rate can make animations, scrolling and supported games appear smoother, potentially giving the phones an advantage among users who prioritize a responsive display.
The screens could also reach a peak brightness of up to 4,500 nits. If confirmed, that would put the devices among the brightest smartphones available, although real-world brightness can vary depending on how and where the display is being used.
Performance meets bigger batteries
Under the hood, both phones are expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor.
Leaked configurations reportedly include 12GB or 16GB of RAM, with up to 512GB of storage. That combination would give the phones plenty of capacity for demanding games, multitasking and large apps.
But battery life could be where the two models really stand out.
The F9 Pro is reportedly equipped with a 6,330mAh battery, while the F9 Ultra could feature an enormous 8,050mAh battery.
Both models are expected to support 100W wired fast charging and USB Power Delivery. The larger battery in the Ultra could make it particularly appealing to users who spend long hours gaming, streaming video or using their phones throughout the day.
200MP cameras lead the photography setup
Photography is another area where POCO appears to be targeting the premium segment.
Both smartphones are expected to feature a 200-megapixel main camera with an f/1.68 aperture.
The secondary cameras, however, could be one of the key differences between the Pro and Ultra models.
The F9 Pro is rumored to include a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with around 2.5x to 3x optical zoom, alongside an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera.
The F9 Ultra could offer a more advanced setup, including a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera.
Both phones are also expected to feature 32-megapixel front-facing cameras.
Bose audio and an unusual LED feature
POCO could also use design and multimedia features to give the phones a more distinctive identity.
The leaked specifications reportedly mention speakers associated with Bose. The F9 Ultra could go a step further with an LED ring integrated into the rear camera module, potentially allowing the phone to display notifications or other visual alerts.
The devices are also expected to feature metal frames, IP69 protection against dust and water, and rear panels reinforced with fiberglass.
How much could the POCO F9 Pro and F9 Ultra cost?
The leaked European pricing suggests that the F9 Pro could start at around €799 for a version with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The F9 Ultra could reportedly cost around €999 in a configuration with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
If those prices are accurate, POCO would be moving further into territory traditionally dominated by flagship models from Samsung, Apple and other major smartphone manufacturers.
That could make the F9 series an interesting proposition for consumers looking for premium specifications without necessarily paying flagship-level prices.
Still waiting for official confirmation
For now, the POCO F9 Pro and F9 Ultra remain unconfirmed. POCO has yet to officially announce the phones, their final specifications, pricing or launch date.
If the leaked information proves accurate, however, POCO’s strategy appears to be about more than simply building another powerful smartphone. With 185Hz displays, 200MP cameras, very large batteries, fast charging and high-end processors, the company could be preparing a pair of devices designed to challenge established flagship phones on several fronts.
The biggest question will be whether POCO can combine these impressive specifications with the aggressive pricing that has traditionally helped the brand stand out in the smartphone market.
