Health Authorities Warn Against Six Dangerous Medications
News Desk
KARACHI: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued a health alert regarding six medications available in local markets that are deemed unsafe and potentially harmful.
These counterfeit and substandard drugs, reportedly produced by Siti Pharma Laboratories in Karachi, have raised significant concerns among health officials.
DRAP’s announcement comes after investigations revealed the alarming presence of these fake medications in various pharmacies across the city.
The authority emphasized that these drugs could pose serious health risks, particularly for individuals suffering from body pain and bacterial infections.
A spokesperson for DRAP stated, ‘We urge the public to refrain from using these medications and to report any suspicious products to the authorities.’
This situation highlights ongoing challenges in ensuring the safety and efficacy of pharmaceuticals in Pakistan.
The proliferation of counterfeit drugs not only endangers public health but also undermines trust in the healthcare system.
Experts warn that the use of such medications could lead to severe health complications, exacerbating existing medical conditions.
In response to this crisis, DRAP plans to intensify inspections of pharmacies and increase public awareness campaigns about the dangers of counterfeit medications.
The authority is also collaborating with law enforcement to track down and penalize those involved in the production and distribution of these illegal drugs.
