FPCCI Demands Extension for Tax Return Filing Deadline

KARACHI: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has officially urged the federal government to grant a one-month extension for filing annual income tax returns, citing widespread technical hurdles and requests from the business community.
Business leaders and trade bodies argued that taxpayers have faced persistent technical glitches on the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) online portal.
An extended deadline would alleviate immense pressure on filers, prevent compliance default, and ultimately foster a more cooperative tax culture across the country.
Expanding the tax net remains a cornerstone of Pakistan’s ongoing fiscal stabilization efforts agreed upon with international lenders.
Trade associations maintain that granting reasonable time extensions does not hinder revenue collection; rather, it encourages voluntary compliance among small and medium enterprises reluctant to engage with complex bureaucratic procedures.
The FBR is expected to review the representation submitted by FPCCI officials in the coming days.
A favorable decision would provide much-needed relief to accountants, corporate entities, and individual taxpayers racing against the current submission timeline.
