Flash Floods in Nepal Sweep Away Homes, Bridges
News Desk
KATHMANDU: Flash floods along the Budhi Gandaki River in Nepal have resulted in the destruction of homes and bridges, prompting residents to evacuate to higher ground.
The torrential waters swept through the region on Monday, causing significant damage and displacing numerous families.
Local authorities reported that the floods were triggered by heavy rainfall, which led to the river overflowing its banks. Emergency services are currently assessing the damage and providing assistance to those affected.
“We are doing everything we can to support the families who have lost their homes,” said a spokesperson from the Nepal Disaster Management Authority.
The floods highlight the vulnerability of many communities in Nepal to extreme weather events, exacerbated by climate change. This disaster not only threatens the immediate safety of residents but also poses long-term challenges for infrastructure and economic stability in the region.
Authorities are expected to hold an emergency meeting to discuss relief efforts and strategies for rebuilding. The government is also likely to seek international assistance to address the aftermath of this disaster and improve flood resilience in the future.
