Rawalpindi: An Australian father and son injured in the tragic firing incident in Chakwal are undergoing treatment at Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Rawalpindi, where doctors say their condition is stable and both patients are out of danger.
According to hospital sources, the injured victims were shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital immediately after the incident and underwent surgery following detailed medical examinations.
Doctors confirmed that bullets lodged in the bodies of both patients were successfully removed during the operations. The father and son are currently under continuous medical observation, while their condition is said to be improving steadily.
The incident claimed the life of nine-year-old Hania Ahmed, a member of an Australian family of Pakistani origin visiting relatives in Chakwal.
The family, all Australian nationals, had travelled from Perth to Pakistan for a family visit. They included 39-year-old Adeel Ahmed, his wife Dr. Sidra Khan, 10-year-old son Affan Ahmed, and nine-year-old daughter Hania Ahmed.

According to reports, the family was sitting in their car outside a relative’s house on Wednesday night when two armed robbers riding a motorcycle approached them. The suspects allegedly surrounded the vehicle and snatched cash and jewellery from the family.
At the same time, a police official from the Crime Control Department (CCD), who was passing by after leaving a nearby police station, noticed the robbery and reportedly opened fire on the suspects in an attempt to stop them. An exchange of gunfire followed before the robbers escaped on their motorcycle.
During the chaos, Adeel Ahmed attempted to drive his family away from the scene to safety. However, additional police personnel arriving at the location allegedly mistook the family’s vehicle for that of the fleeing suspects.
According to media reports, police opened indiscriminate fire on the car under the misunderstanding that the robbers were attempting to escape.
As a result, nine-year-old Hania Ahmed was fatally shot and died at the scene, while her father Adeel Ahmed and brother Affan sustained serious injuries.
Fortunately, Adeel Ahmed’s wife, Dr. Sidra Khan, remained unharmed during the incident.
The tragic episode has sparked grief and concern, while questions continue to emerge regarding the circumstances that led to the firing on the family’s vehicle.
