News Desk

GUJRANWALA: The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued a notice to Federal Minister for Information Ataa Tarar for violating the code of conduct during the NA-77 Gujranwala by-election campaign on November 7, 2026.

The notice, released by the District Monitoring Officer of the Election Commission, highlights that Tarar participated in the campaign of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate, which contravenes established electoral regulations aimed at ensuring a level playing field for all candidates.

This incident raises significant concerns regarding the integrity of the electoral process in Pakistan, as violations of the code of conduct can undermine public trust in democratic institutions.

Political analysts suggest that such actions may provoke further scrutiny of the government’s commitment to fair elections.

In response to the notice, it is expected that Ataa Tarar will provide a formal explanation to the Election Commission.

The commission is likely to review the situation and may impose penalties if it finds the violations substantiated.
