Investments Significant in Addressing Power Problems: Experts

Islamabad: Experts emphasised the importance of innovation, digitalization, and investments in order to address power sector challenges at ‘Energy Dialogue’.

The University Advancement Office and the US-Pak Centre for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCAS-E) at NUST, in collaboration with the Pakistan Renewable Energy Coalition, organised a dialogue titled ‘Resolving Energy Sector Crisis through Digitalization and Innovation’.

The event brought together experts from the energy sector, policymakers, and representatives from various industries to discuss the energy challenges of Pakistan and their potential solutions through digitalization and innovation.

USPCAS-E Principal Dr Adeel Waqas Ahmed emphasised the value of the dialogue in resolving current challenges facing the country’s energy sector.

NUST-RIC Pro-Rector Dr Rizwan Riaz said, “We are happy with the dialogue’s outcome and expect that it will help Pakistan address its energy crisis through digitalization and innovation.”

The era of working in silos is over,” he said, underscoring the need for integrated and climate-ready systems across hospitals, schools, transport, sewage, and electricity grids to ensure functionality and safety during natural disasters.

Ahsan Iqbal also pointed to Pakistan’s active shift towards cleaner energy sources, including solar, wind, and green hydrogen technologies, as part of its fossil fuel reduction strategy.

The minister lauded nature-based solutions already underway, such as mangrove planting along coastal areas and urban green parks, describing them as smart, cost-effective, and equitable resilience measures.
