Rawalpindi: After months of rising dengue cases, Rawalpindi has witnessed a significant decline, with the number of reported cases dropping to single digits for the first time in two months.

Despite the ongoing threat posed by the disease, with temperatures continuing to drop, the latest data from the District Health Authority shows that only 9 new dengue cases were reported in the past 24 hours, a sharp decline from the previous day’s 7 cases.

The number of patients currently admitted to hospitals has also decreased, with only 36 people under care at present. This reduction in cases marks a positive shift after weeks of rising infections that had overwhelmed the healthcare system.

The District Health Authority’s aggressive two-pronged strategy focused on countermeasures and increased surveillance has been a key factor in bringing the outbreak under control.

Along with heightened awareness and preventive actions, punitive measures have been implemented rigorously.

Financial penalties totaling Rs. 20.3 million were imposed for violations of dengue standard operating procedures (SOPs), and police have filed over 6,200 FIRs related to dengue violations. In addition, 18,899 buildings were sealed during the campaign to curb the spread.

This focused approach to combating the dengue epidemic, combined with improved community awareness and swift action, appears to be bearing fruit, though health authorities remain vigilant as the cold weather could continue to present challenges in controlling the disease.
