DCC Reviews Dengue Response, Infrastructure Developments

Rawalpindi: The District Coordination Committee (DCC) on Saturday held a review meeting on dengue response and infrastructure developments in Rawalpindi district.
The district administration officers briefed the first meeting of the District Coordination Committee (DCC), chaired by Chairman Qamar Islam, here on Saturday about the performance of all departments.
During the briefing, health officials informed the meeting that four cases of dengue were reported in Rawalpindi this year. Additionally, four dengue patients received medical treatment and were discharged from hospitals.
The meeting was informed that 1273 dengue workers are currently working, with another 1500 daily wage dengue workers recently recruited. Furthermore, it was noted that 270 daily wage workers were dismissed last year due to negligence.
Over the course of one year, medical treatment facilities were provided to 426,648 individuals in three major teaching hospitals of Rawalpindi, including RIU and RIC. Additionally, over 185,000 patients visited OPDs in hospitals, while more than 154,000 people were admitted.
After the revamping of Holy Family Hospital, the OPD is now fully functional, the committee was informed. Chairman Coordination Committee Qamar Islam directed the formation of Reconciliation Council Committees at the police station level, emphasizing the need for a mechanism to be developed for crime prevention.
He expressed concern over the increasing incidents of mobile snatching and motorcycle theft, stating that the number of personnel in police stations would be increased to control the crime rate. Additionally, he called for a crackdown against drug peddlers and criminal gangs.
Regarding infrastructure, it was mentioned that there are 58 dams in the Rawalpindi region, with the completion of work on Chahan Dam and the expected completion of water supply lines by June. There are a total of 1807 government schools in Rawalpindi, including 1039 primary, 249 elementary, 452 high, and 67 higher secondary schools.
To address the low gas pressure problem in Rawalpindi, 4-inch pipelines are being laid from Swaan Camp and Ranyal, with large-scale action being taken against electricity thieves. Since 2023, 194 FIRs have been registered against electricity thieves, and an inquiry against SDO Chakri has been ordered.
Regarding housing societies, it was noted that there are a total of 594 housing societies in Rawalpindi, with action being taken in accordance with the law against illegal housing societies and those involved in looting people in the name of housing societies.
Chairman Qamar Islam directed that complete details of all public welfare projects should be brought to the next meeting. He emphasized that all-out efforts would be made to provide relief to the people and ensure the provision of all possible facilities to them.
The meeting saw the participation of several notable figures including Member National Assembly Malik Abrar, Daniyal Chaudhry, Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi Hasan Waqar Cheema, Members of Provincial Assembly Punjab Bilal Yamin Sati, Ziaullah Shah, Malik Iftikhar, Naeem Ejaz, Imran Ilyas, Mohsin Khan, Raja Hanif Advocate, Malik Mansoor, and Raja Sagheer Ahmed.
Also present were DG of RDA Kinza Murtaza, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Nabil Riaz, AD Finance Ramsha Javid, VC of Medical University Rawalpindi Dr. Umar, CEO of Health, and other relevant officers from Rawalpindi.
