Coventry City Makes Premier League History with Victory Over Newcastle
News Desk
COVENTRY: Coventry City achieved a remarkable feat in the Premier League on Monday, securing a historic 4-1 victory against Newcastle United that lifted them out of the relegation zone. This win marks the first time in 127 years that a team has won consecutive top-flight matches after losing their opening four games without scoring.
Jack Rudoni opened the scoring for Coventry with a penalty early in the first half, marking the club’s first-ever Premier League goal at the CBS Arena, their home since 2005. Guinean forward Sidiki Cherif extended the lead after halftime, while Newcastle’s Sven Botman managed to pull one back. However, late goals from Ellis Simms and Stephen Mfuni sealed the victory, propelling Coventry from 19th to 14th place in the league standings.
This victory is significant for Coventry, who had previously secured their first points of the season with a narrow 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest before the international break. The triumph over Newcastle also represents Coventry’s first win against the Magpies since 1999, bolstering their hopes of avoiding relegation in their first Premier League season since 2001.
Looking ahead, Coventry aims to continue their winning streak as they prepare to face a struggling Tottenham Hotspur on October 19. Manager Frank Lampard expressed pride in his team’s performance, stating, “Today we showed a lot of energy and showed our abilities.”
