By-elections Conclude in Gujranwala and Sahiwal

LAHORE: Polling for by-elections in two Punjab constituencies — Gujranwala’s NA-77 and Sahiwal’s PP-203 — concluded on Sunday, marking a significant electoral event following the recent vacancies caused by the deaths of their respective lawmakers.

Polling commenced at 8 AM and continued until 5 PM, allowing those present inside polling stations at closing time to cast their votes. NA-77 became vacant after the passing of five-time MNA Chaudhry Mehmood Bashir Virk on September 11 due to a prolonged illness.

His son, Rashid Basheer Virk, is among the candidates vying for the seat, alongside 17 other contenders.

The by-elections are crucial as they reflect the political dynamics in Punjab, a province that plays a pivotal role in Pakistan’s governance.

Analysts suggest that the outcomes could influence the balance of power in the National Assembly, especially with the upcoming general elections on the horizon.

As the counting of votes begins, all eyes will be on the results, which are expected to be announced shortly.

The electoral commission has emphasized the importance of transparency and fairness in the process, ensuring that all votes are counted accurately.
