Bangladesh Braces for Four Days of Heavy Rain

Dhaka: Bangladesh is set to witness four consecutive days of widespread rainfall as an active monsoon system continues to dominate weather conditions across the country, raising the likelihood of heavy downpours and localized disruptions.

According to a 120-hour forecast issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds are expected across most parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions from August 5 to August 8.

The weather office has also warned of moderate to heavy rainfall in several areas during the period, with isolated locations likely to experience intense downpours.

Meteorologists said the ongoing weather pattern is being driven by an active monsoon trough extending from Rajasthan through northern Bangladesh to Assam, along with an associated trough over the North Bay. The monsoon remains fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over the Bay of Bengal.

Temperatures are expected to dip slightly during the first two days of the wet spell before remaining largely stable on August 7. A slight rise in daytime and nighttime temperatures is forecast toward the end of the five-day outlook.

Although rainfall is expected to ease after August 8, showers are still likely in many northern and northeastern districts, while isolated heavy rain may continue in some parts of the country.

Over the past 24 hours, several regions recorded significant rainfall, with Srimangal receiving the highest at 94 millimetres. Other heavily affected areas included Sylhet (88 mm), Chandpur (83 mm), Bandarban (80 mm), Tetulia (73 mm), Hatiya (72 mm), Netrokona (71 mm), and Cox’s Bazar (67 mm).

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department said it will continue to monitor the evolving weather situation as the active monsoon persists across the country.
