Lahore: Every effort should be taken to ensure protection of eyes and vision, said Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Principal Professor Al-Fareed Zafar while addressing a walk on the World Sight Day.

The event was organised by Lahore General Hospital Ophthalmology Department on Saturday, and the day’s theme was ‘Love Your Eyes’.

The purpose of the walk was to educate the general population about eye safety, diseases and its preventative measures.

Professor Al-Fareed said that medical science has proved that diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes are directly related to ocular issues, thus one must be cautious about it. He emphasised that in addition to maintaining a moderate diet, annual eye exams and prompt treatment for any issues should be made a priority.

Similarly, white or black cataracts or any other ailment affecting vision should be addressed seriously, and people should also contact doctors right away, he mentioned.

Overuse of laptops, smartphones, and other electronic gadgets can harm eyesight, so parents must discipline kids in this regard.

Congenital blindness in some children also causes issues in the future. More effective eyelid and vision treatments have emerged as a result of contemporary scientific research. Pakistan has better technical facilities in the field of ophthalmology so the citizens shouldn’t have any trouble in resolving their eye-related problems.
