Rainfall, Mountain Snowfall to Persist in KP

Peshawar: Parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, experienced varying degrees of rainfall and mountain snowfall, with meteorological experts forecasting the continuation of this wet weather intermittently into Monday evening/night and Tuesday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported a prevailing westerly in the western and upper regions of Pakistan, expected to strengthen in the next 12 hours.

These conditions are anticipated to bring more intermittent rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall over hills in several areas, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Buner, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Bajaur, Khyber, Kohat, Kurrum, Waziristan, Karak, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan on Monday evening/night.

Upper districts may experience moderate to heavy rain/snowfall, with the possibility of isolated hailstorms.

On Tuesday, further rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall over hills are expected in Kohistan, Shangla, Abbottabad, and Manshera. The rest of the province is likely to have cold and dry weather.

The heavy rain/snowfall could lead to road closures in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, and Hunza from Monday to Tuesday. Landslides in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa are also a potential risk during this forecast period.

In Peshawar, minimum temperatures are projected to range between 08-10 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and 07-09 C on Wednesday.

Over the last 24 hours, rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall over hills were reported in various parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Notable rainfall (mm) included Saidu Sharif and Pattan with 55, Kalam with 52, and Dir (Upper) with 49. Snowfall (inches) was recorded in Kalam with 24, Malamjabba with 18, and Drosh with 02. Kalam registered the lowest temperature in the province, dropping to 5 degrees Celsius below freezing.

In Peshawar, the minimum temperature recorded was 10 C, with a morning relative humidity of 100 percent.
