Families Get Homes Under ‘Apni Chhat’ Program

Lahore: Punjab’s flagship low-income housing programme has crossed a major milestone, with more than 51,900 families receiving financing to build or own homes, according to a progress review chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday.
The meeting was told that loans worth Rs60.5 billion have so far been disbursed under the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” initiative, while construction activity is continuing across the province.
According to the briefing, 45,178 houses are currently under construction and 6,160 homes have already been completed, turning the government’s housing programme into a large-scale construction drive targeting low-income households.
Reviewing the progress, Maryam Nawaz directed officials to accelerate construction and ensure that the programme delivers its intended benefits to deserving families.
The chief minister said the initiative was being implemented against defined performance indicators, with a focus on improving living conditions and providing greater security and convenience to citizens.
She said providing families with a home represented more than an infrastructure project and described homeownership as a basic responsibility of the state towards vulnerable sections of society.
Maryam Nawaz said the programme reflected the vision of PML-N Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to provide housing to underprivileged citizens, adding that she was working to ensure that no family in Punjab remained without adequate shelter.
The government says the scheme is aimed at expanding homeownership among low-income families by providing financial assistance for house construction, with the latest figures indicating continued expansion of the programme across Punjab.
