Youm-e-Takbeer: Offices, Courts Closed Tomorrow

News Desk

Islamabad: All government departments, offices, and courts across the country will remain closed tomorrow in observance of Youm-e-Takbeer, which is commemorated annually on May 28, according to a report by 24NewsHD TV channel.

However, schools will remain open, as per a notification issued on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court has also announced that it will be closed on May 28, following a directive from the Cabinet Division.

Similarly, the Lahore High Court (LHC) and its subordinate courts will observe closure on May 28 in honor of Youm-e-Takbeer, as stated in a notification issued by the LHC registrar.

According to this notification, the LHC along with sessions and civil courts will remain closed on the day.

Youm-e-Takbeer is observed nationwide to mark Pakistan’s nuclear tests conducted on May 28, 1998.

These nuclear tests were carried out as a defensive measure in response to India’s nuclear tests earlier that month.

With these tests at Chaghai in Balochistan, Pakistan became the seventh country worldwide and the first Muslim-majority nation to acquire nuclear capability. This was a direct reaction to India’s nuclear tests conducted on May 11 and 13, 1998, at Pokhran in Rajasthan.

At that time, Nawaz Sharif was Pakistan’s Prime Minister, and despite strong international pressure to refrain, the nuclear tests were successfully carried out under his leadership.
