World’s Tallest Bridge Opens in China

Islamabad: A bridge built to solve a transportation challenge in China’s mountainous region has emerged as a major tourist attraction, combining advanced engineering with unique visitor experiences.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in Guizhou Province rises 625 meters above the ground and has become a symbol of China’s ambitious infrastructure development. Opened to the public in September 2025, the massive steel structure offers visitors more than just a route across a canyon.
Designed as a destination, the bridge features glass walkways offering panoramic views, cafes inside its towers, and adventure activities such as bungee jumping. Its most eye-catching attraction is a 300-meter-long artificial waterfall, enhanced with a laser lighting system that creates a dramatic nighttime display.

The bridge was constructed to improve travel in Guizhou, a mountainous province where difficult terrain had made journeys between locations lengthy. With the new bridge, a route that previously took around two hours can now be completed in nearly one minute.
Spanning 9,482 feet, the bridge required approximately 20,000 tons of steel during construction, equal to the material used in about three Eiffel Towers. Work began in January 2022, and the bridge opened after nearly four years of construction.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge reflects a growing trend of turning major infrastructure projects into tourism landmarks, attracting visitors with a combination of engineering achievements, scenic views, and entertainment experiences.
