Islamabad: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Islamabad Police Operations, Muhammad Jawad Tariq, attributed the city’s 20% reduction in crime rate for 2025 to successful digitalization, advanced monitoring systems, and enhanced patrol operations. He expressed confidence that this trend would continue, positioning Islamabad as one of the safest cities.
In an exclusive interview with a private news channel, DIG Tariq credited the city’s improved policing to effective strategies and enhanced law enforcement measures. He emphasized that the 20% decline in crime incidents is a direct result of these measures.
“Digitalization and increased patrol operations have played a key role in this success,” he stated, noting that the reduction in crime reflects significant improvements in policing efforts. He further highlighted Islamabad’s ranking in the World Safety Index 2025 by Numbeo, where the city has surpassed prominent capitals such as London, New York, and Paris, earning a spot among the top 100 safest cities globally.
DIG Tariq also outlined the city’s comprehensive safety initiatives, which include specialized petroleum plans tailored to different areas, as well as the deployment of Dolphin squads and city watchers stationed in markets for enhanced vigilance. Trail petroleum teams have been assigned to protect hawkers, ensuring their safety.
In addition, the DIG emphasized the crucial role of digitalization in bolstering city safety. Virtual patrol officers have been introduced to monitor the security landscape, and advanced crime prediction models have been developed to anticipate and prevent gang-related crimes, further strengthening the city’s overall safety.
Tariq commended the government’s proactive stance in supporting law enforcement initiatives, acknowledging the importance of collaborative efforts between authorities and citizens in maintaining public safety. He expressed confidence that with these ongoing strategies, Islamabad would continue to improve as one of the safest cities in the region.
