Peshawar: Women’s SIM cards are being misused for terrorist activities and extortion in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, revealed Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Imran Shahid.
Some women are unaware that their SIM cards are being used in their names for these unlawful purposes, added Shahid.
During their investigation, numerous SIM cards were found registered under women’s names, and they were used for terrorist activities and also for making extortion calls, often in conjunction with Afghan SIM cards.
DIG also pointed out that some women’s SIM cards have been utilised for various government welfare programs, such as the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), without the women’s knowledge or consent.
The authorities are taking action in collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The Counterterrorism Department is working closely with the PTA and FIA.
They have also reached out to the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to block the ID cards associated with these problematic SIM cards. APP
