Islamabad: A rising number of Pakistani women are breaking societal barriers by entering the app-based transportation industry, gaining financial independence and empowerment.
In a traditionally male-dominated sector, many women are defying conventions to become ride-hailing drivers, earning admiration and respect from passengers.
Amna, a proud cab driver, described her journey as liberating. “I want to show the world that Pakistani women are strong, capable, and independent. We are not just drivers—we are entrepreneurs, breadwinners, and change-makers,” she said.
Amna shared how she had grown tired of relying on her husband for transportation, and now, as her own boss, she enjoys the opportunity to meet new people daily.
She also highlighted the safety measures of the ride-hailing industry, noting that all ride data is securely recorded and stored, offering a transparent and safe experience for both drivers and passengers.
Sana, a 35-year-old single mother, found that joining an app-based transportation service transformed her life. “I was struggling to make ends meet, but now I can provide for my child and even save for the future,” she said.
Initially, her family and friends were skeptical about her decision to drive, but now they are all proud of her success. Sana has even inspired some of her friends to follow in her footsteps.
To all the young women out there, Sana encourages, “Empower yourself, take the wheel, and become a cab driver. It’s a rewarding career that gives you the freedom to be your own boss and secure your financial future.”
