Abbottabad: Residents of Bakot, a suburban area of Abbottabad, are gripped by fear after wild boars broke into several houses over the past week, killing goats, chickens and other domestic animals.
Locals said the animals forced open doors and iron cages at at least six houses in different neighbourhoods, causing significant financial losses.
In the latest incident, wild boars entered the house of Saeed Rafiq Abbasi in Mohalla Qasimabad, Bakot, and killed a valuable goat. Similar incidents were reported at the residence of Rizwan Abbasi, where chickens and pet birds were devoured, and at Tabassum Abbasi’s home, where a goat was killed. Mushtaq Abbasi also lost several chickens in a separate attack.
At Irfan Abbasi’s house, the animals reportedly broke cages and killed chickens and other small animals, while at Darvesh Abbasi’s residence, eight chickens and roosters were killed after doors were forced open. A goat belonging to Qamar Riaz Abbasi was also among the livestock lost in the attacks.

Residents alleged that wild boars have previously destroyed standing crops in the area, leaving agricultural land damaged and barren. They claimed that a more aggressive breed of boar has emerged, capable of surviving in snow, forests and harsh weather conditions, and no longer fearful of human presence.
Locals accused the Wildlife Department of negligence and demanded immediate intervention from the district administration. They called on officials, including Sarmad Saleem, to order an inquiry into the matter, provide compensation for losses and take urgent measures to eliminate the threat.
Residents warned that the animals pose a serious risk to human life, particularly schoolchildren and elderly citizens, and said authorities would be held responsible in case of any casualties.
