Islamabad: Pakistan is likely to observe the first fast of Ramadan on February 19, 2026, according to the latest forecast issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Wednesday.
The PMD said astronomical calculations indicate a strong possibility of sighting the Ramadan crescent on February 18, subject to favourable weather conditions.
However, the final decision regarding the start of the holy month will be announced by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

According to the department, the new moon is expected to be born on February 17 at 5:01pm. Experts noted that the moon’s age and expected weather conditions on February 18 appear conducive for visibility, increasing the likelihood of moon sighting across various parts of the country.
If the crescent is sighted on February 18, the first day of Ramadan would fall on Thursday, February 19.
In Karachi, the moon’s age on February 18 is expected to be around 26 hours. Sunset is forecast at 6:25pm, while moonset is expected at 7:24pm, providing a suitable observation window.
The PMD reiterated that while astronomical data support the likelihood of moon sighting, the commencement of Ramadan will be confirmed only after the official meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
