Islamabad: Former Test cricketer Rashid Latif has lauded Pakistan’s remarkable 2-1 ODI series victory over Australia, marking the first such triumph in 22 years.
The historic win was secured in Perth, where Pakistan’s bowlers restricted Australia to just 140 runs in the decisive third ODI. Pakistan then comfortably chased down the target of 141 in just 27 overs, losing only two wickets.
Latif credited several key factors for Pakistan’s success, emphasizing the crucial role of strong leadership. “When you have a good captain, the team performs on the ground,” Latif said, highlighting the unifying influence of leadership both on and off the field. He also pointed to effective player selection and adaptation to pitch conditions as important factors in the victory.
The former wicketkeeper-batter praised the performances of both Pakistan’s bowlers and batters, noting that the bowlers exceeded expectations in dismissing Australian players on their home turf, and the batting was equally impressive in chasing down the target with ease. Latif described the win as highly encouraging for Pakistan cricket.
