Islamabad: Google’s Year in Search 2025 has revealed what captured Pakistan’s attention online over the past year, with trends dominated by cricket, local dramas, technology, and practical “how-to” queries.

Cricket remains king, with local dramas rising

Cricket once again topped Pakistan’s search rankings, as fans looked up major fixtures, including Pakistan’s matches against South Africa, India, and New Zealand.

The country’s premier tournament, the Pakistan Super League (PSL), continued its reign as the most searched event, followed by the Asia Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy.

Emerging cricket stars also dominated individual searches, with names like Abhishek Sharma, Hassan Nawaz, and Irfan Khan Niazi generating significant online buzz in 2025.

Outside the stadium, Pakistanis turned to television screens for more entertainment. Local dramas such as Sher, Judwaa, and Aas Paas topped search trends, reflecting viewers’ enduring appetite for strong storylines and memorable characters.

Tech searches surge alongside recipes and everyday queries

Pakistanis’ interest in artificial intelligence saw a sharp rise, with tools like Gemini, On4t, and Google AI Studio trending throughout the year.

Streaming platforms myco and Tamasha also remained widely searched as fans looked to watch cricket matches online. Searches for “non-fungible tokens” (NFTs) signaled growing curiosity about digital assets and emerging technologies.

Real-time developments also drove search activity. Topics such as the Karachi floods and the flooding near the Chenab River saw spikes in traffic as citizens sought updates, safety guidelines, and situational reports.

Government initiatives — including the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry, the Asaan Karobar Card, and the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme 2025 — also remained key search interests.

Educational queries like FBISE results, economic indicators such as gold prices, and international developments, including news related to Iran, rounded out the list of top informational searches.

From comfort food to global tastes

Food searches reflected Pakistan’s blend of traditional and modern preferences. Classic dishes — mutton, beef, sweet items, dough-based foods, and soups — remained favourites. Meanwhile, rising interest in quinoa, tofu, and sandwiches indicated a shift toward healthier and quick-prep options.

How-to searches led by Karachi’s new e-challans

Among how-to queries, Karachi’s newly introduced e-challan system sparked the most curiosity nationwide. People frequently searched to understand how the system worked, what the alerts meant, and how to resolve them.

Pakistanis also explored topics ranging from car insurance and investments to creating Ghibli-style photos, highlighting a digitally engaged and inquisitive population.

Commenting on the findings, Google’s Regional Director for Business and Operations, Farhan Qureshi, said the report reflects the nation’s evolving engagement with technology.

“Year in Search gives us a unique lens into what inspires, informs, and excites Pakistanis,” he said. “From cricket and entertainment to everyday how-to questions and emerging technologies, the trends this year show a nation that is curious, creative, and increasingly digital-first.”

He added that with new features like AI Mode, Google aims to deliver more relevant and helpful answers, making it easier for users to navigate information.

Google’s Year in Search 2025 offers an insightful snapshot of Pakistan’s dynamic digital landscape — one shaped by curiosity, innovation, and an ever-expanding appetite for learning.
