Visiting Murree? Here’s Snowfall Traffic Plan You Need

News Desk

Rawalpindi: The City Traffic Police Murree has issued a comprehensive traffic plan to ensure smooth vehicular movement and facilitate tourists during the snowfall season.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Murree Imran Razzak on Monday visited the Murree Press Club, where he met local journalists and briefed them on traffic arrangements, operational challenges, and mitigation measures.

Responding to issues and complaints raised by media representatives, the CTO said coordination was being maintained with the district administration and relevant departments to improve traffic management.

He said Murree is the country’s major tourist destination, and advance planning is essential to ensure traffic flow and public convenience during peak snowfall.

He said more than 200 traffic wardens and officers had been deployed at key points across the city for effective monitoring, timely guidance, and rapid emergency response.

Barriers, awareness banners, and pamphlets would be placed at entry points to guide tourists, while strict enforcement of lane discipline, no-parking zones, and the one-way system would be ensured during snowfall.

According to the plan, five main roads—View-forth Road, Bank Road, Hall Road, Kuldana Road, and Imtiaz Shaheed Road—have been declared one-way routes, while Mall Road will remain completely closed to all traffic due to heavy public rush.

The CTO said GPO Chowk, Cecil Hotel, and parts of Kuldana Road had been declared parking-free zones to prevent congestion and road blockages.

He added that the entry of water tankers and food supply vehicles, excluding heavy vehicles, had been restricted to between 1 am and 7 am.

A traffic control room has been established at Sunny Bank to ensure timely handling of traffic issues and immediate reporting of accidents. The contact number for the control room is 051-9269200.

Special advisories have also been issued for tourists. The CTO said travelers should check the latest weather and traffic updates before starting their journey through the official social media page @ctpmurree.

The use of four-wheel-drive vehicles or tyre chains during snowfall has been made mandatory, and tourists are advised to keep warm clothing, dry food, and sufficient fuel in their vehicles. He also advised against spending the night inside vehicles during extreme cold.

CTO Razzak said strict enforcement of traffic laws was essential to protect lives and property and assured that the City Traffic Police Murree remained fully active to provide maximum facilitation to tourists and local residents during the snowfall season.
