US Lawmaker Plans Pakistan Investment Conference March 2026

New York: US Congressman Tom Suozzi has announced plans to hold a major conference in March 2026 aimed at promoting investment in Pakistan, signaling continued efforts to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

Speaking to Geo News after addressing an event in New York, Suozzi, Co-Chair of the Pakistani Caucus in the US Congress, said, “We have to discuss the different issues and try to encourage investment in Pakistan from the United States and the rest of the diaspora.”

The announcement comes amid improving US-Pakistan relations following high-level engagements, including Field Marshal Asim Munir’s unprecedented meeting with former US President Donald Trump and subsequent discussions involving Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy PM Ishaq Dar.

Suozzi noted that confidence among investors is growing, and the upcoming conference aims to encourage more foreign investment, particularly from the US.

Highlighting the importance of creating a secure investment climate, Suozzi advocated for an independent arbitration board to resolve disputes, making it safer for foreign investors to engage with Pakistan.

The Democratic Congressman, representing New York’s 3rd District, has previously demonstrated support for Pakistan. During recent floods, he co-signed a bipartisan letter urging Secretary Marco Rubio to provide an urgent briefing on US relief efforts.

In April 2025, Suozzi became the first US Congressman to visit the Kartarpur Corridor, describing it as “a powerful symbol of peace, unity, and reconciliation.”

During the visit, he also highlighted the plight of brick-kiln workers in Punjab, advocating for modernization and mechanization to end bonded labor while attracting foreign direct investment.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, stressed the urgency of strengthening economic ties, calling the current US-Pakistan relationship “the best it has ever been.”

He emphasized the strategic importance of collaboration between the two countries, which are set to become the third- and fourth-most populous nations globally in the coming decades.

The event also recognized the contributions of the American-Pakistani community in politics and professional fields. New York Deputy Speaker Phil Ramos highlighted APPAC’s role in establishing 15 National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) centers in Pakistan, benefiting thousands of nurses seeking US employment. Senator Cory Booker praised APPAC’s involvement in the historic appointment of Zahid Qureshi as the first Muslim-American federal judge.

Several Congresspersons and state representatives, including André Carson, Ilhan Omar, Dr Shama Haider, and Jenifer Rajkumar, spoke at the gala, alongside representatives of New York Governor Kathy Hochul and State Attorney General Letitia James.

Chairman APPAC Dr Ijaz Ahmad concluded the event by underscoring the organization’s mission: “Our mission is representation, dignity, and opportunity. We aim to ensure that our children and generations after them walk with pride, not fear.”
