UN Forecasts 2024 to Eclipse Previous Hottest Year

Islamabad: The United Nations has issued a warning indicating that 2024 is expected to be even hotter than the previous year.
Reports from foreign news agencies, such as AFP as cited in Dawn newspaper, highlight that last year witnessed unprecedented temperature increases globally, resulting in a notable acceleration in glacier melting rates.
Initial findings from the United Nations Weather and Climate Agency’s annual State of the Climate report indicate that 2023 was recorded as the hottest year in history.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has further emphasized that 2023 marked the hottest period within the last decade, with predictions suggesting a continuation of rising temperatures.
In response to these alarming trends, Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, expressed grave concern over the imminent danger facing the planet due to environmental challenges.
In a video statement, he stressed the detrimental effects of fossil fuel emissions on the climate and cautioned against the accelerating pace of climate change.
Saulo, a spokesperson, lamented the breaking of temperature records in 2023, underscoring the severity of the situation regarding climate change.
The WMO has reported that by the close of 2023, over 90 percent of the world’s oceans experienced extreme heat waves during the preceding year, with warnings issued regarding the significant adverse impacts on marine ecosystems.
