At least four people, including two police personnel, were killed and more than 30 others injured in separate explosions in South Waziristan and Lakki Marwat districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, officials confirmed.
In South Waziristan, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated around 5pm in Rustam Bazaar, Wana district, as police were on a routine patrol in the busy market.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Wana, Asghar Ali Shah, said the explosive had been planted at the main entrance of a supermarket and detonated remotely or via a timing device.
Two policemen were killed on the spot, while five SHOs, two ASIs, and several others sustained serious injuries. Eighteen civilians, including children, were also hurt. Rescue teams and local residents rushed the injured to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Wana, where an emergency was declared.
Medical officials confirmed that some of the injured, including SHO Momin, are in critical condition and have been shifted to Wana Scouts Hospital.

The blast comes amid Operation Ghazbad-ul-Haq, Pakistan’s ongoing military offensive against terrorist elements in the border regions and inside Afghanistan. Security forces cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to identify those responsible.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the attack, expressing sorrow over the deaths and injuries, and directed the Inspector General of Police to submit a detailed report. He also ordered the provision of the best medical care for the injured, emphasizing emergency measures for seriously wounded personnel.
“Cowardly acts of terrorists cannot weaken the resolve of the people and the government,” Afridi said, offering condolences to the families of the martyrs.
In a separate incident in Lakki Marwat, an explosion occurred at a shop belonging to the brother of a local peace committee member. One person was killed and several others injured. Police are investigating whether the blast was caused by a planted explosive device or a quadcopter attack.
Following the incidents, security has been further enhanced in both districts, and law enforcement agencies have launched search operations and investigations.
