Rawalpindi/Islamabad: Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam on Friday suspended a traffic warden and issued a charge sheet after a citizen was injured during a traffic stop in the Civil Lines area, a police spokesman said.
According to the spokesman, the incident occurred when the traffic warden signalled a motorcyclist to stop over a traffic violation. While stopping the motorcycle, the warden’s wireless set struck the citizen, causing injuries.
Taking immediate notice of the incident, the CTO ordered the suspension of the traffic warden and initiated departmental proceedings.
“Implementation of the law is necessary, but such conduct is unacceptable,” the CTO said, adding that mistreatment of citizens would not be tolerated.
He said strict departmental action would be taken against the traffic warden found responsible, reaffirming the City Traffic Police’s commitment to discipline, accountability, and respectful conduct toward citizens.
13 Days Left: M-Tag Count Crosses 118,000 in Islamabad
With only 13 days remaining before enforcement begins, Islamabad’s vehicle registration drive under the M-Tag system has gained momentum, with more than 6,000 vehicles fitted with M-Tags in the last 24 hours at 16 service points across the federal capital.
Officials said the total number of vehicles registered under the system has now crossed 118,000, as authorities prepare for full enforcement from January 15.
According to the district administration, M-Tag services are continuing without interruption at all designated locations. To accommodate the increasing number of visitors, additional staff and sufficient supplies have been arranged to minimize waiting time.
Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon said the administration has ensured the availability of manpower and equipment at all centers, adding that teams are working daily to meet the rising demand ahead of the deadline.
He urged citizens to complete M-Tag registration for their vehicles before January 15 to avoid inconvenience once strict enforcement begins, reiterating that no relaxation will be granted after the deadline.
Officials stated that from January 15, vehicles without M-Tags will not be allowed to enter Islamabad. Checkpoints will be activated at entry points, and enforcement teams will be deployed as part of broader traffic and security management measures.
Vehicle owners have been advised not to wait until the final days, as the rush is expected to increase closer to the deadline.
